Console commands, script extenders and mod tools: clean workflow

A repeatable setup for CET, KCD commands, BG3 Script Extender, xEdit, Mod Organizer 2 and similar tools.

UPDATED 2026-09-19
STEP 01

Use the game's exact toolchain

Console syntax and loaders are game-specific. Follow the upstream README for that exact game instead of copying commands from a different patch or sequel.

STEP 02

Keep mods isolated

When possible use a profile-based manager such as Mod Organizer 2 or the game's dedicated manager so reverting does not require reinstalling the whole game.

STEP 03

Save commands as documented presets

For command-heavy games, keep a text file with the command, purpose and tested game version. This turns one-off experiments into a repeatable setup.

STEP 04

Remove one layer at a time when troubleshooting

Disable the newest mod/plugin first, then script extender plugins, then load-order changes. This is faster than deleting the entire setup.
